Snippets from the weekend… and Vegan Monday

Is it totally counterproductive if I cram tons of dairy in my maw on the weekends in anticipation of Vegan Monday? Like I did this past weekend? Some of the highlights, food-related and otherwise…

The discovery of tete de moine, or monk’s head, cheese—oh la la, dee-licious!... spontaneous late-night dancing with the kids at Bunker Club…QT with best friends… a dip in the pool… phone calls from California and Paris… Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Bun ice cream… lots of sweating… grilled peaches… my first encounter with the amazing West Village bookstore, Three Lives & Company… yoga… the Sunday paper… near completion on my book!

Morning
Green tea
Green juice
Slice of seven-grain toast with peanut butter

Afternoon
A mish-mosh salad: grilled fennel, quinoa, greens and tofu
An apple

Evening
The most delicious salad, as introduced by superstar chef, Julie this past weekend: romaine lettuce, granny smith apple, golden raisins, peanuts and toasted sesame seeds. I’ve had it three nights in a row now! (Which is better than eating ice cream three nights in a row. But I did that, anyway, last week…)

  1. Did you see the NYT article about the home of the ladies that own Three Lives ? Very nice .. I wanted the views.
I coveted their rooms, lined with crowded bookshelves.
Cinnamon Bun ice ceam sounds like something I will like. Can you imagine me on a visit to NY .. the non-stop eating ? shudder to think ~
I am not eating much these days, I am swinging between grief and hope and my appetite always disappears.
But this afternoon, I did enjoy some bread pudding I made from leftovers from the local French bakery .. croissant bread pudding is something else.. with chocolate :)
So this is just to say, I have not kept any good eating habits lately.
I have to try the salad though !
    What sort of dressing ?
    besos ..

  4. Is the bookstore not the most amazing place?? I just spend hours walking around (and they have such an obsession with Paris!) I'm going to miss it so so so much when we move. Is there anything close in paris that sells english books?

  5. Oh, I'm so there with you. I just finished a 10-day metabolic liver/system cleanse program and you wouldn't believe what I ate before starting! But now that it's done, I feel so clear I just hate to bring back the dairy for some reason. I do eat Greek yogurt with some fruit for breakfast and sprinkle parmesan cheese on salads and stuff, but the ice cream that usually gets me through these awful Minnesota summers...I just can't do it. Yet. We'll see.

  6. And speaking of ice cream, my friend forwarded me this link to "ice cream" made only from bananas. I guess they puree up so creamy. I haven't tried it yet, but it might be a little treat for you on your Vegan Mondays...or guilt-recovery days after a weekend of indulging!

  7. Oooo la la! Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Bun ice cream!!! Quel gout incroyable et delicieux! (LOL) IMHO, anything made by Ben & Jerry's is to die for! That's why I could never, never be vegan. Thanks for sharing your passion for yummy food with all of us out here on the web. And... Not least of all... thanks for all of your gorgeous food-related photos. Those pics feed us all with vicarious indulgences into la gastronomie! Bon appetit.
