My Vegan Mondays

I did it! Two full weeks without sugar, chocolate, caffeine, dairy or meat. Since 70% of your food can technically be acidic on the alkaline diet, I am still theoretically doing the diet. But I’ve had fish and booze and Haribo Tagado (ohhhh) and one sublime Jean-Paul Hévin truffle (mmmmmm). My goal this week is to really see how these acidic foods affect my energy and body when I eat them. Do I notice a difference?

Overall, the diet was a success. It was an interesting exercise in being really, really mindful of what you put in your body and being in control of what you eat. I’ve enjoyed relying so much on greens. But, for me anyway, it’s just not sustainable. I love food too much. Sandwiches and oatmeal and fish and toast, to say nothing of cupcakes and bonbons and wine and chocolate chip cookies. I could never give that stuff up for good. But here are a few rules I will try to implement:

I’ll try to keep my morning routine of green tea, green juice and fruit.
Pizza no more than once a week.
Peanut butter toast no more than once a week.
Baked goods one day during the week and one day during the weekend.
As often as possible—at least 4 or 5 days a week—a giant salad as one of the day’s main meals.

As for today, it was back to regular Vegan Mondays:

Morning
Green tea
Green juice (kale, celery, parsley, lemon juice and banana)
Blueberries
Banana

Afternoon
Pasta with tomato sauce
Green salad
Apple

Evening
Roasted asparagus and carrots

  1. Holy crap. I opened my remaining bag of dried apple from G. Detou tonight. It's been waiting in my cupboard for me for nearly four weeks. I started with just a few pieces. So spongy and sugary and delicious. Then I filled my cute little French bowl with a few more pieces. Hooked on that chewy texture, I went back. For just a few more. But then I went back. And again. Until finally, I had to throw the remaining pieces in the trash. So much for willpower.

  2. I think your plan sounds great. I am going to take some of those suggestions. I have been trying to do the salad thing forever!

  3. Chapeau, Amy! Your post has inspired me to try to eat a bit more on the healthy side. That and the fact that I'm incredibly embarrassed that I've gone through half a jar of speculoos spread in three days, not to mention beaucoup de Nespresso capsules...

  4. I honestly don't know HOW you did that... although your list doesn't look that bad.

  5. A word to the wise -
If yr going to retrieve cake from the garbage, better soak it in the sink first - makes it much less appealing.

Oh why did I not read this post yesterday before my Financier Pastry Binge..?
I was 'good' for so long..too long I guess and I paid yesterday for it - reverse sinning.
Can we start our own OPA Amy?

  6. But when you have a giant green salad for a meal, does that keep you full and satisfied? I long to eat like this, but then find myself stuffing palmiers in my face at 3pm.
