Witty & wise

“In Paris they simply stared when I spoke to them in French; I never did succeed in making those idiots understand their own language.”
—Mark Twain

(Who's our modern day Mark Twain in terms of wit and talent??)

  1. Excellent question! I can't think of anyone writing today with Twain's wit. I checked out to see what recommendations they'd suggest and it just brings up more books by or about Twain. I'm curious to see what you or anyone else thinks.

  2. it's el, I think it's a sadly barren field. The first two names that come to mind are David Sedaris and Jonathan Ames, both who have the wit, but I don't know about if the intelligence is as deep as Twain's. Of course the genres - semi-autobiographical essays - are different, too, but I think that's a sign of our times. M

aybe David Kamp, too? He's more of a journalist, but brings a bounce and a spark to his writing that Twain definitely has...
